Family Support Nights

Come join us to share ideas, issues, concerns, and thoughts about having a child or family member of any age with special needs. Helping Hand Center offers Family Support Nights the first Wednesday of each month to bring families together to talk and share with each other. Each session focuses on a different topic.

1st Wednesday each month
6:00pm – 7:00pm

June 7 | Empower Open House

Empower is a new program at Helping Hand Center that provides confidence and skills to individuals with disabilities so they can become active members in their communities. The program – which focuses on community engagement, volunteerism, and employment – is meant to serve as an intermediary step for those interested in employment or other community opportunities, but may not be ready for a traditional vocational program.

Please join us for this informational session to meet the program staff and participants and see if Empower is the right fit for you or your family member. There will be two sessions on June 7, the first will be at Noon, the second will be the usual 6pm time slot.

LOCATION: Adult Services Building | 6160 East Avenue, Hodgkins

Due to the proximity to the Independence Day Holiday, the July Family Support Night has been cancelled.

August 2 | Work Incentive Planning and Assistance

Work Incentive Planning and Assistance (WIPA) projects are funded by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to provide information and benefits planning to enable beneficiaries with disabilities to make informed choices about work. WIPA projects hire and train Community Work Incentives Coordinators (CWICs) who work with individuals receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to provide in-depth counseling about benefits and the effect of work on those benefits.
