July 2011Helping Hand Center in the News & Community Outreach Helping Hand Center "Rocks"!: We are participating in the LaGrange rocking chairs this summer! Check out our rocking chair in front of DeLuca's Deli and Grill at 26 S. LaGrange Road. This is a great way to get our name out in the community! Helping Hand Center Staff Award: In June both the Suburban Times and The LaGrange Doings had coverage of Helping Hand Center - it was for Lauren Narducci winning a West Suburban Chamber of Commerce award. Congratulations again to Lauren! We are very proud of these athletes and their coaches! Here is a link to a news story about this and Helping Hand participation in the Bloomington/Peoria newspaper: Helping Hand New Group Home: The LaGrange and Western Springs Doings newspapers had the following story about our new Group Home in the Highlands. Here is the link if you prefer your news electronically: New Fitness Program: Helping Hand Center Residential Services recently started this program that is focused on fitness for adults with developmental disabilities. The program follows the motto "Exercise is for EVERYbody". Each week participants will receive new resources, advise, exercises, new recipes to try and lots and lots of motivation. The program is designed to teach individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities how to make healthy physical activity and nutrition choices. The materials and activities are adapted specifically for our clients needs. This will be a fun, lively interactive event focusing on Fitness, Nutrition and increased Social Skills. Already 36 residential clients have signed up! Dance Recital Participation : In June several of our clients participated in Expression Dance Studio's second annual dance recital at Nazareth Academy. The theme of the recital was Rock On where our clients preformed for an audience of over 100 people a choreographed number that was a smashing success. New Jobs For Subcon Industries: SubCon continues to be productive and keeps our adult clients very busy! SubCon recently obtained 3 new jobs; one from Ferris Manufacturing , a medical device manufacturer, another from Welch Packaging, and a third is Packaging Resources and our clients will be packaging large boxes for Crate and Barrel. New Jobs For Subcon Industries: SubCon continues to be productive and keeps our adult clients very busy! Donations and Grants New Group Home: Items, donations, and construction discounts for our new group home continue come in from various groups and individuals in the community. Helping Hand would like to recognize the following as well as others still working with us on future donations:
Grants: In June we received a Grant from the Gustafson Family Foundation for our School for Children with Autism. Bequests: We received a very generous bequest from Earl P. and Dorothy Ruth Thompson. Dorothy was a Helping Hand Center Thrift Store volunteer over 20 years ago and she is still giving to Helping Hand! Other Donations: Every day we receive donations to our organization. Thank you to all who give to Helping Hand Center - the support is wonderful and is needed as we continue our quality programs and services! Events Helping Hand Center Golf Outing: The 2011 Golf Classic will be held Monday July 18th at Riverside Golf Club. Please contact Helping Hand Center to sign up! Helping Hand Center Donation Day: September 10, 2011 Helping Hand Center Family Association Picnic: Sept. 18 at the Pleasant Dale Park District, Walker Park in Burr Ridge Helping Hand Gala : Mark your calendars for March 10, 2012 at the Burr Ridge Marriott for this GRAND EVENT!! Staff Updates Congratulations to Natalie Forberg for passing her Board Exam. She is now an official Board Certified Behavior Analyst!
