Free Screenings for Early Intervention
As a service to families in our community, Helping Hand offers free screenings to reach more children ages 0-3 who are not meeting their developmental milestones, and who may have developmental delays or other special needs. We assist families who are not sure about the scope of their child’s need for services, and who are reluctant to contact a Child and Family Connections office for a full evaluation.
The screening utilizes a developmentally appropriate screening tool and takes about 45 minutes to complete. During the screening, a Developmental Therapist will asses the child’s five major domains of development through clinical professional observation of:
- Cognition
- Language
- Gross and Fine Motor Skills
- Self-Help Skills
- Social-Emotional and Behavioral Issues
The screening will identify areas of development that might warrant further evaluations with a more comprehensive testing. If the child needs such evaluations, the Developmental Therapist will refer the family to their local Child & Family Connections Office. A Service Coordinator from the CFC will contact to family to determine if they would like to proceed with a treatment program for the child.
