Special Recreation After Hours

Helping Hand Center provides recreational opportunities in the late afternoon/ evening hours and weekends on a weekly basis. These programs provide a variety of activities, which reinforce social skills and encourage independence. They also provide structured experiences in which participants can have fun as well as meet new people.

Here are the programs that are offered:

Monday

Creative Crafters

3:00pm - 6:00pm

We'll spend each afternoon creating projects that you can keep or give as a gift. A variety of art media and tools will be used, including markers, glitter, foam, and beads. On occasion, you may help create craft items to be sold at seasonal fairs and events. Program fee: $75.00 per month.

Tuesday

Special Olympics Training

3:00pm - 5:00pm

A great way to exercise, learn the rules of sports, and how to work as a team. Our Special Olympics team will compete in a variety of sports, including basketball, track and field, and softball. Times may vary on the program due to games against other Special Recreation teams and tournaments. A schedule will be given out in advance that will list all this information. Please note, transportation will be provided on a very limited basis for this program. Program fee: $80.00 per month.

Wednesday

Fantastic Fine Arts

3:00pm - 6:00pm

A fun filled afternoon that will consist of music, drama, and more. Participants will get a chance to sing their favorites song and play several different instruments with support from our talented music staff. They will also participate in several different improvisational activities and put on their own play once a year. Program fee: $80.00 per month.

Thursday

Healthy Habits

3:00pm - 6:00pm

This program will give our participants the opportunity to learn how to make a healthy meal or snack, discover how to make exercise fun, and learn how to make living a healthy lifestyle easy and enjoyable. We will be consulting with a certified nutritionist on the activities we will be doing and the recipes we will be making at this program. Program fee: $75.00 per month.

Friday

Weekly Wildcard

3:00pm - 6:00pm

Game on! Every Friday afternoon, our participants will enjoy a day of socialization through a variety of games. The group will experience friendly competition and fun through board games, video games, sports, and other activities. Program fee: $75.00 per month.

Saturday

Social Group

11:00am - 2:00pm

Spend time with friends in a variety of activities that promote socialization and leisure planning. Museums, athletic games, snack making, and movies are just some of the ways you'll spend your Friday evenings and/or your Saturday afternoons. We will go on at least two community outings per month. Clients are required to pay for any admission cost. Program fee: $80.00 per month.

*Door to door transportation may be included, if the client is within driving range, for an additional $50.00 per month. Drop off at certain pick up points will also be available for $25.00 per month.
